AU or OU: OU, Flexpoint (Natalia in this canon never left her home and eventually reached the age of 18, and ended up nearly starting work for the oppressive regime in Russia as one of their living weapons... Just before getting snatched up by the Gate. She never arrived in Town, and has yet to face Typhon.)
Canon: Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting EngineCanon Point: Previous arriving in Town. Possibly previous the drowning of the world in the Outside.
Character Age: 18
OU Backstory: Natalia Koutolika, the
Prodigy, is one of the canon pre-generated characters for
Chuubo's Marvelous Wish-Granting Engine. Initially drowned in the Outside, she comes to Town about six weeks before the campaign known as
The Glass-Maker's Dragon begins. To quote the book, P. 148:
> You lived in Russia and you were cold. You were cold and hard and bitter and you were just a kid. You were smart and you were street-smart. You were fierce and you were strong. You were truly incomparable— one of the best, perhaps
the best, in an entire mortal generation—and you were in despair; for no matter how strong or smart or clever a little Russian girl was, no matter how many math problems you could solve or black belts you could beat up, there wasn’t any way that you could change the world.
> Nobody could.
> That’s what you
thought, anyway, and so, your heart froze.
there isn't a wiki about this, but there's a wiki entry from the archive for the author's blog, Hitherby Dragons, that has an earlier version of her
here. Powers and Abilities: Natalia is a true polymath and
The Prodigy. When it comes to martial arts and soldiering and mathematics, she's about the best that a person
can be, without outright resorting to magic. When she does resort to magic-- when she activates that wishing power of her heart, either through tough times or just powering through with raw Ether-- she can perform intense, action-hero style feats of strength and skill.
She is peak human in almost every sense of the word. Almost.
That time of horrors she went through, it froze her heart, figuratively, and, in the worst cases, literally.
That's not to say she doesn't feel-- part of her arc both in the original canon and here is that this freeze is something she hopes she can stop-- but expressing her emotions is difficult and painful, at best, and can lead to her
physically starting to freeze at worst.
But, because of this, there's a silver lining-- it's just as hard for
others to move her heart with magic.
Desired Faction: [intentionally blank.]
SAMPLESHere is several threads in the Test Drive.
In addition:
Why do you wish to join the Crimson Corsairs? I have yet to see a third option. The new Tsars and this Empire of yours are the same in many ways; I see no reason to support the same people again. Let me sail with you.
Have you ever lost a comrade? How did you react? ... Several. I... I do not remember their names, I am sorry, but... I became colder, I think. Colder and colder with each one.
How do you handle orders from a superior officer? Efficiently. As to the letter as I can manage. [OBVIOUS lie] With no remorse.
What would you refuse to do in service of the Crimson Corsairs? Ask me to enslave someone and I shall end your life.
Many Crimson Corsairs must serve Imperials to preserve our cover and gather resources. How do you feel about this? No different than biding my time under them before. I am patient as a glacier.
What are your dreams for the future? ... What future?
